    St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, for Roy Roberts, Sr., 96, who passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023.

    A visitation will take place at Notre Dame Catholic Church on Saturday from 7:00 AM until the time of service.

    A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 AM on Saturday.

    Rev. Abelardo Gabriel, SVD will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Patrice Roberts and Shannon Edwards. Gift bearers will be Brianna Boyance, Sierre Edwards, and Jasmine Lewis.

    Interment will follow at House of Love Cemetery.

    In his younger years, Roy proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. His time in the Navy instilled in him a sense of discipline and dedication that shaped his character throughout his life. Roy lived a fulfilling life, always putting his family first. He worked as a cement laborer in the construction industry, ensuring a stable and comfortable life for his loved ones.

    Prior to his sickness when he wasn't working or spending time with his family, Roy enjoyed his hobbies, which included frequent trips to the casino, tending to his yard, and working on cars. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life and cherished the moments spent in his community. He worked for the police jury for over 10 years and was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver and the St. John Association.

    Roy's kind and humble nature earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him. He had a quiet strength that spoke volumes, and his few words carried great wisdom, yet his infectious smile and distinctive laugh, brought joy to everyone around him. His positive impact on those around him will never be forgotten. He is survived by his children, Angelina Matthews (Warren), Roy Roberts, Jr. (Phyllis), Sonia Johnson, Florita Chatman, Irma Dugas (Randy), McBride Roberts (Janet) and Shirley Lewis (Christopher); grandchildren, Shannon, Jeremiah, Samara, Ashley, Robert, Mandell, Jasmine, Monwell, Crystal, Alexandra, Traye, Jared, Troy, Paige, Patrice, Tedtra, Roy, III, Jeremy, Eugene, Jr., Chasity, Dominique, Terrance and Diarre; 40 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; siblings, Elsie Gedward, Harry Roberts, Collins Roberts (Grace) and Mary Louise Ambroise; and a host of nieces and nephews.

    He is preceded in death by his wife, Florence Kerlegan Roberts; parents, Samuel and Celine Wiltz Roberts; and his siblings, Annabelle Guidry, Vernella Michael and Sam Roberts, Jr.

    Pallbearers will be Roy Roberts III, Eugene Cole, Jeremiah Matthews, Traye Berard, Mandel Roberts, and Robert Chatman III.

    Honorary pallbearers will be McBride Roberts, Roy Roberts, Jr., Warren Matthews, Christopher Lewis, Randy Dugas, Harry Roberts, Sr., Collins Roberts, Sr., Arthur Gedward, Kendall Guidry, Graylon Guidry, Rodney Roberts, Marvin Ambroise, Jr., Dexter Ambroise, Harry Roberts, Jr., Collins Roberts, Jr., Lincoln Gedward, Jr., Dominique Polk, Monwell Johnson, Jared Roberts, Jermey Mitchell, Shantley Roberts, Shantley Guidry, Troy Alfred, and Terrence Roberts.
