Betty Louise (Anderson) Cantin went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 18, 2023.

Betty was born on June 1, 1930 in Hartford to the late Edward and Olive (Lundgren) Anderson and was a graduate of Farmington High School, class of 1948. In 1951, she married Joseph Gerard “Gerry” Cantin. They settled in Enfield in 1956 where they built their life and family together until Gerry's death in 1990.

Betty was a devoted wife and mother, an attentive grandmother and great-grandmother, and a loyal sister and friend. She was a skillful administrative assistant for local employers over the years and retired from Yankee Gas in 1992. She was a faithful and beloved member of Bethany Baptist Church in East Windsor.

Everyone who knew Betty was made to feel special because she doted out love and affection, and every encounter was laced with her enthusiasm and encouragement. Her party games, April Fools' pranks, and backyard treasure hunts reflected her fun-loving nature. She displayed warmth and generosity and was exceptionally patient. In fact, her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 - “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.”

Betty was self-sacrificing and supportive of each of her five children as they journeyed through life. She loved being part of her grandchildren's lives as they grew up and was thrilled to have great-grandchildren. Besides family and church activities, Betty enjoyed travel, gardening, and reading biographies.

Among the adventures she experienced were: a train ride across Canada for her 35th wedding anniversary (age 56); an elephant ride in Thailand (71); a river raft ride in Alaska (72); a gondola ride in Austria (77); a boat ride in France (85); a helicopter ride in Florida (88); and eleven trips to Hawaii.

Betty is survived by her son, William (wife Mary) of Enfield; her son John (wife Cindy) of New Hampshire; her daughter Patricia Katepoo (husband Net) of Hawaii; her daughter Mary Haskell of Enfield; six grandchildren, Emily, Neil, Megan, Matthew, Kelly, Anan; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides her late husband, Betty was predeceased by her daughter Suzanne, her brother Bob, and her sister Adrienne.

The family wishes to express special thanks to her daughter, Mary, for living with and attending to Mom for over ten years, especially the last 5 months. Thanks also to all of those who cared for and visited Betty during her final months of illness, particularly the care and love provided by Regina from Home Helpers and all the knowledgeable and caring staff from Trinity Hospice. And lastly, we appreciated the many words and gestures of love received from relatives and friends.

Betty's family will receive visitors on Tuesday, August 29, from 4pm-6pm at Leete-Stevens Funeral Home located on 61 South Road in Enfield.

Her celebration of life service will be held the following day, Wednesday, August 30, at Bethany Baptist Church, 278 North Road (Route 140), East Windsor/Broad Brook. Her family will receive visitors at 10am, and the service will begin at 11am.

Burial will be at Enfield Street Cemetery on Enfield Street followed by a lunch back at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Betty's memory to Camp Northfield. It is a Christ-honoring camp for all ages, which she supported and enjoyed.
