Richard Raymond Rothenberger, Sr., 89, passed away peacefully, October 8, 2023, in his Laureldale residence, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the widower of Georgeanne (Hohl) Rothenberger who died September 11, 2022. They had shared 65 years of marriage.

Born February 6, 1934, in Temple, he was a son of the late Glenn and Mary N. (Kantner) Rothenberger.

Richard was a graduate of Reading High School.

He was employed as a machine setter with AT&T, where he worked for 36 years, retiring in 1995.

Richard was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park.

He left a lasting impression on everyone he met and all loved “Pop” and his easy-going ways. He enjoyed spending time with his family and simply loved life.

His family would like to thank the many wonderful doctors, nurses, PCAs, and staff from the McGlinn Cancer Institute and the C Floor Unit of the Reading Hospital that cared for him throughout his treatment. Their love and compassion was truly heartfelt.

He was an avid racing fan, enjoyed going to the casino and playing cards, and absolutely loved golfing, which he did over 3000 times.

Surviving are his four children: Richard R. Rothenberger, Jr., husband of Diane C. Rothenberger of Leesport; Mark S. Rothenberger of Reading; Beth Youse of Laureldale; and Christine M. “Tina,” wife of Khanh Nguyen of Muhlenberg Township.

Also surviving are his six grandchildren: Carly Rae (Rothenberger), wife of Dan Weyandt; Allie L. Rothenberger; Amy M. Youse, companion of Michael Waters; Jenna L. (Youse), wife of Vaughn Ragsdale; Ian A. Nguyen, husband of Sarah; and Noah R. Nguyen, husband of Brooke; and three great granddaughters: Olive Jane and Hazel Rae Weyandt and Sophia Ann Nguyen, as well as another Nguyen great granddaughter on the way.

Richard is survived by one brother, Jeffrey Rothenberger, husband of Elsa, of Laureldale. He was preceded in death by his other three siblings: Joan Cagnetti, William Rothenberger, and Sally DeSantis.

A viewing will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale.
