Alice Lowenstein, 101, died peacefully at home on Sunday October 1, surrounded by family and friends while in hospice care.

Alice was born May 26, 1922. She grew up in Pennsylvania, graduating from Memorial High School of Plains, PA and attending Wilkes-Barre Business College.

Alice had a long and successful career at Macys-Bamberger’s; during her 37 years there her colleagues became like family to her. She joined Bamberger’s in March 1950 as a salesclerk. She moved up through the ranks in several personnel management and executive positions. Towards the end of her career, she moved to Florida to open a new store in Miami, and subsequently retired in May 1987.

Alice married Bennett H Lowenstein on Jan 7, 1989. They continued to live in Boca Raton, Florida, and enjoyed many happy years of marriage, playing golf, traveling and entertaining friends and family until his death in 2001.

Alice was a well-known and beloved member of her community, having lived in the same townhouse in Boca Raton for over 35 years. In later years she was often seen out walking with her dog Benny, whom she adored.

Preceded in death by her husband Bennett, son Robert Hurtt, stepson Roger Lowenstein, her parents and her siblings Jess (Emily) Jones, Edna Shaw, Dot (Harry) Conner, Edward Jones and nephew Daniel Thomas.

She will be greatly missed by numerous friends and family. She is survived by her stepdaughter Jane (Jim) Riffel; grandchildren Michael (Sara) Riffel, Ann (James) Riffel Pasquesi, Mark (Katie) Riffel, Melissa (Greg) Bearth, and Dakota (Pat) Allen; great grandchildren Alex, Aaron, Aj, Jameson, Charlie, Hudson, Emily and Owen; nieces Kristine Cecere and Barbara Thomas, great-nieces Jessica (Josh) Kaufman and Janet (Gary) Gully, and great-great nieces Lily, Kayla and Beverly.

A Memorial Service in celebration of her life will be held in the Fellowship Hall at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church of Boca Raton on Saturday, October 7, at 1pm. This service can also be viewed by live stream on Facebook. Please send remembrances to The St. Gregory’s Ministry in lieu of flowers.
