    John William Schmitt, of Baxter, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 5, 2023. Funeral services will take place at 11 am on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples, MN. A visitation will take place one hour prior to service. Interment will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.

    John was born on July 7, 1944 in Staples, MN to John Michael and Tracy (Bittner) Schmitt. He was married to the love of his life, Barbara Jean Williamson on May 23, 1969. John and his wife were owner-operators of Schmitt Feed Store until it was sold in 2006. He worked hard, and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, but most of all his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

    John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara; children Jason (Denise) Schmitt, Marnie (Tony) Loftus, Sheila (Ben) Busker; grandchildren Jalen, Reid, Isabella, Sydnie, Austin, and Landon; great-grandson Brooks; sister Betty Gold; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He is preceded in death by his parents.
