Anthony A. "Tony" Scussel, age 80, of Stafford Springs, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2023. A loving husband, father, and grandfather (“Gampa”), Tony was a lifelong resident of Stafford Springs and made a considerable impact on his community. Tony married his high school sweetheart, Roseann, and the couple shared a loving, 60-year marriage wherein they raised two children, Anthony and Angela. In his early days as a father, Tony was an avid fly-fisherman and an enthusiastic Little League coach for both of his children; today, they fondly recall his loud, sometimes disruptive--but always well-intentioned--support for them on the sidelines. With his talent for arranging flowers, he founded The Growth Company in 1979 and managed it tirelessly ever since, growing it into the Enfield institution it is today and brightening countless homes and events with his creations.

Tony was known for his remarkable dedication and drive, continuing to run the business into his eighties and also previously serving as President of both the Italian Club and Rotary Club of Stafford. Despite working long hours all week, he never missed Friday night dancing at Joanna’s Restaurant. His fun-loving spirit also shone through the many trips he took with Roseann, his golf outings with the “Fab Four”, his extravagant Halloween costumes that entertained his grandkids growing up, and his memorable Fourth of July pool parties with friends and family. Underneath the fierceness with which he supported his family—whether on the sidelines of sports games, at weddings and graduations, or through challenging times---was a heart of gold, and often a handmade bouquet to go along with it.

He is survived by his wife, Roseann (Sartori) Scussel; his sister, Elaine Hobart; his son, Anthony C. Scussel, and his wife, Darly Scussel; his daughter, Angela Alton, and her husband, Sean Alton; and his two granddaughters, Hannah Alton and Eve Alton, and two step-grandchildren, Pierre-Carly Desilier and Fritz-Carly Andre.

Visitation hours will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023 at Somers Funeral Home 354 Main St., Somers, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday Sept. 22, 2023 at St. Edward's Church, 27 Church St., Stafford Springs, CT. (Please meet directly at Church). Committal will follow at St. Edward's Cemetery in Stafford. Donations in Tony's memory may be made to the Rotary Club of Stafford, PO Box 277, Stafford Springs, CT 06076.
