    Boyne Albert Lewis

Boyne Albert Lewis of Medicine Hat, passed away on Friday, September 15th, 2023, at the age of 83 years. Boyne leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Heather; his children, Kevin (Terrilynn) Lewis, Lisa (Bernhard) Nickel, and Randy (Jody) Lewis; six grandchildren, Kara, Karmin, Kandice, Matthew, Michael, and Amanda; eight great-grandchildren, Izaiah, Sophia, Ava, Avery, Bailee, Carson, Liam, and Aeden; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert, and Reta Lewis; brother, Ronald Lewis; and sister, Lynda (Tom) Frangos. Boyne was born in Carleton Place, Ontario on August 7, 1940. He attended Carleton Place High School, graduating in 1959. In his younger years, he was passionate about sports (football, hockey, and many more), and was actively involved in the Cadet program, where he was honored with many awards for his accuracy on the firing range. He married his high school sweetheart, Heather Andrews, in 1962 and they were blessed with three children. Boyne started his working career, right after high school, and remained with Dupont of Canada in Maitland, ON. until 1975 when he relocated his family to Medicine Hat to accept a job offer from Canadian Fertilizers. In the early 80’s, Boyne’s garage was transformed into the “Lewis Aircraft Factory”, where he embarked on his ultimate dream of building his own airplane, a Rutan Long Eze. The process took him five years and finally flew in 1986. He enjoyed many years of flying and attending multiple airshows. The legacy of Boyne’s plane lives on and is still seen flying in various airshows, entertaining people all over the world. After retiring in 2000, Boyne joined a local band where he resumed his love of playing the bagpipes. He was active in many community organizations like Fish and Game Association, Lions Club, and Saamis Archers. Boyne was an avid bow hunter and loved fall hunts. He shared his knowledge of guns (target shooting) and bows with his children and grandchildren. He loved the outdoors, whether it was dog walking, camping, hunting, or canoe trips. Boyne will be remembered as “Mr. Fix It” as he readily shared his knowledge of maintenance and was always the first call when something broke down. Another cherished quality of Boyne’s was his logic. Life’s problems could always be broken down to logical answers. Although his health declined rapidly, he never lost his love of life, always looked at the bright side with an eager willingness to play. The Funeral Service will be held at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1 Dunmore Road SE Medicine Hat, AB, on Friday, September 22nd, 2023, at 2:00 pm with Pastor Murray Jaster officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery. If unable to attend, family and friends are welcome to participate via livestream by logging on to and joining the live webcast on Boyne’s memorial page at the above date and time. A virtual guest book is available on the livestream page for those participating remotely. In lieu of flowers, donations in Boyne’s memory may be made to Alberta Pound and Rescue Centre (APARC), 1002 South Railway Street SW, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 2W2.
