Ann Chalanchuk, age 94 years, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre.

Born in Shortdale, Manitoba, to proud parents Peter and Mary (nee Szraba) Hawryluk, Ann grew up alongside her siblings, Steve, Bill, Mike, and Elsie, all of whom she cherished dearly.

On June 9, 1946, Ann married the love of her life, George Chalanchuk, and together they shared the family farm in the district of Rounthwaite, MB with George’s parents Samuel and Elizabeth Chalanchuk. After the passing of Elizabeth in 1951, Samuel moved to Brandon, and George and Ann took over the mixed animal and grain farm. Ann demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the farm and her family. She worked tirelessly alongside George, tending to animals, maintaining a large garden, and helping with the harvest. Her skills in the kitchen were unmatched, and her homemade preserves, baked goods, and hearty meals were a testament to her love for her family.

After the passing of George in 1985, Ann moved to Brandon, where she continued to extend her hospitality to others. She welcomed boarders into her home while they attended university or college, and lovingly babysat for family members. Ann enjoyed social activities from Bingo nights to casino outings, and was an active member of the Ukrainian National Home, where she contributed her culinary skills in the making perogies and cabbage rolls for various events held there.

In her later years, Ann became a cherished member of the Colonial Estate Apartments community, enjoying monthly potlucks, BBQ’s and Bingo nights with her fellow residents. The Covid-19 pandemic brought challenges to her social life. Not being able to socialize with family and friends affected her greatly and she agreed to move to Fairview Home, where she continued to bring smiles to the faces of staff and fellow residents.

Ann was very proud of her family and loved everyone equally. She will be greatly missed by her children Marie Tyschinski, Virginia (Ken) Attridge and Natalie (Darrell) Juliak; grandchildren Lori (Gary) Wood, Lonnie (Stephanie) Tyschinski, Micheal (Lavonne) Tyschinski, Kevin (Tracy) Tyschinski, Chrissy Attridge, Allan Attridge, Aaron (Chantale) Juliak, and Bryce (Teresa) Juliak; great grandchildren Garett (Kaylee) Wood, Orry Wood, Hope (Harley) Lumb, Holt Wood, Connor Tyschinski, Eric Tyschinski, Owen Tyschinski, Ashley Attridge, Brayden Attridge, Connor Attridge, Aidan Juliak, Grant Juliak and Nicholas Juliak; and great-great grandchildren Crew Wood, Wesson Wood and Axle Lumb.

She was predeceased by her husband George, infant son Steven George, son-in-law Phil Tyschinski, her parents and her siblings.

Prayers were held at Memories Chapel on Thursday, September 28, 2023. The Funeral Rite took place at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church on Friday, September 29, 2023 with The Very Rev. Fr. Mel Slashinsky presiding. Interment followed at Brandon Cemetery with Lonnie Tyschinski, Kevin Tyschinski, Aaron Juliak, Bryce Juliak, Eric Tyschinski and Owen Tyschinski as pallbearers.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Ann may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 17th Street East, Brandon, MB R7A 7M6 or Diabetes Canada, #401-1 Wesley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4C6 or to a charity of choice.
