Lucille E. Nathan, 99, Minot, died Friday, September 8, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Lucille was born January 28, 1924, in New Rockford, ND to Warren and Elizabeth (0’Keefe) Day. She was raised and educated in New Rockford, graduating from St. John’s Academy in 1943. After high school, Lucille was employed in New Rockford as a secretary for the City Superintendent of Schools in Eddy County.

Lucille was joined in marriage to Harold Nathan on February 26, 1946 in New Rockford, ND. They moved to Minot after a year in Fargo, ND, while her husband attended NDSU. They were blessed with sixty-two years of marriage and six children.

She returned to work at Ellison’s Department Store in 1972, working until the closure of the store in 1980. Alongside her husband, Lucille owned and operated Harold’s Gift Shop for a couple of years. She continued in retail at Walter’s Women’s Wear until retiring in 1988. Retirement winters were spent in Arizona. Harold passed away in 2009.

She enjoyed playing bridge and kept her hands busy with embroidery and crocheting. Lucille also did some volunteer work at Bishop Ryan High School. Into her 80’s she embraced technology to stay connected with her large family and kept her mind sharp by praying the Holy Rosary daily, naming each member of her family in her prayers.

Lucille was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She also belonged to the auxiliaries of the VFW, Eagles and DAV, all of Minot. Lucille will be remembered for love of family, faith and home. She also loved her bridge clubs, square dancing groups, snowmobiling, cooking, baking and her chokecherry jelly, which was enjoyed by people all over the world.

Lucille is survived by her children Bruce (Susie) Nathan, Billings MT, Diana (Doug) Watterud, Columbus ND, Craig (Barb) Nathan, Lake Metigoshe, ND, Jean (Steve) Elsberry, Brooklyn Park MN and Carol (Chuck) Kasper, Danville IL; daughter-in-law Peggy Nathan, Fargo; fourteen grandchildren: Sarah and Jerry Nathan; Aaron Nathan and Jennifer (Nathan) Berry; Todd Watterud, Tara (Watterud) Mercer and Joshua Watterud; Michelle (Nathan) Wagner and Adam Nathan; Krista (Elsberry) Buggs, Kaylene (Elsberry) Nelson and Erik Elsberry; Jacob Kasper and Michael Kasper; twenty nine great grandchildren: Madison Gilly, Bodhi and Theodora Nathan; Dylan, William, Andrew and Alex Berry and Alice Nathan; Savannah, Sierra, Sofia and Ty Watterud; Mariah, Ellie and Olivia Mercer; Hunter, Kaison, Brody and Rayce Watterud; Vincent and Charlotte Wagner; Evalie, Aralie and Denby Nathan; Bryson and Sasha Buggs; Harper and Reese Nelson; Theodore Elsberry; Emmee and Lucas Kasper; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
