    Mark Alan Smith, 63, Bay City, our loving, thoughtful, hard-working son, father, grandfather, brother, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2023, with his family by his side. Mark was born on April 16, 1960, in Bay City, the son of the late Frank H. and Ardith Kaye (Dunning) Smith.

    Mark graduated from T.L Handy High School. He went on to attend Delta College, South Georgia College and proudly earned his degree in Nursing.

    Mark led a life filled with compassion, love, and devoted service. He pursued his passion for caring for others by becoming a Registered Nurse, dedicating his career to healing and providing comfort to those in need. He was a Registered Nurse at Hurley Medical Center for 15 years and a Paramedic for 13 years in Georgia. Mark’s thoughtful and empathetic nature made him both an exceptional nurse and a cherished friend to his colleagues and patients.

    Outside of his profession, Mark had a zest for life and indulged in a variety of hobbies. Whether he was cruising on his motorcycle, immersing himself in a captivating book, or skillfully working with wood, Mark found joy in every moment and made the most of every opportunity. He was a cherished member of his family, and his presence will forever be missed.
    Mark leaves to carry on his legacy his beloved mother, Ardith Kaye Smith; his children, Erin (Jacob) Centers, Sean (Lynnelys) Smith, Megan (Eddie) Lewis, Ryan (Audrey) Smith; grandchildren, Isaiah, Trinity, Chloe, Layla, Paul, Bentley, Chance, Lana, Hudson, Elijah, Raylan, and Samantha; his sister, Shellie Smith; special friends, Melisa Besko, Matt and Candy Lamay. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Frank H. Smith.

    Mark’s family will be present to receive visitors on Friday, October 13, 2023 from 3:30 PM until his 5:00 PM Life Celebration at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 821 N. Pine Rd., between Ridge & Center. Fr. Jose Maria Cabrera will preside. Rite of Committal will be held privately in St. Patrick Cemetery.

    The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Covenant Visiting Nurses – Hospice, for their kind and exceptional care. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research.
