On Thursday, September 28, Richard Clemens Szymanski, a beloved husband, brother, father, and grandfather, passed away. He was eighty-four. Born to Helen and Clemens Szymanski on September 4, 1939, Dick graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and went on to be an officer in the Navy and then to work at Hamilton Standard for 33 years. He received two master’s degrees, one from George Washington University and the other from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He wedded Edna Stadie, and they were happily married for 59 years. They traveled extensively throughout the US and beyond – seeing many of the amazing things in the world – the US National Parks, Alaska, Hawaii, the great pyramids of Egypt, Paris, and many more incredible places. He enjoyed watching football and baseball, following the New York Giants and Notre Dame, and was an avid Red Sox fan. He was a proud and loyal UCONN alumni and followed both the men’s and women’s basketball teams enthusiastically. He also enjoyed watching Nova and Nature and appreciated the great beauty of the world around him.
He leaves his beloved wife, Edna, his three children, Stephen, Ann-Marie (Loren) and Laura (Chris), and several grandchildren – Matthew, Tommy, Rosemary, John, Oliver, and Ben. He is also survived by his sister, Judith Sucec, and her husband James, as well as several cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Elaine Szymanski. He will be greatly missed. Relatives and friends may join the family on Sunday, October 8, 2023, from 2 pm – 4 pm at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd, Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 am on Monday, October 9, 2023, at St. Bernard Church, 426 Hazard Ave, Enfield. (Please meet directly at church). Burial will follow at St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Enfield. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to the charity of your choice.
