Charles “Chuck” E. Brooks, 77, passed away on Saturday, September 30th 2023 in the Garrison Memorial Hospital after being transported from the Benedictine Living Community – Garrison due to health complications.

Chuck was born on December 8th, 1945 to Barbara (Hanson) & Charles E. Brooks in Concordia, KS where he graduated in 1963. The day after graduation, Chuck enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged. He came to Sawyer, ND with a harvesting crew where he met Judy Smith. They married on April 6th, 1973 and recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary.

Chuck worked various positions at Basin Electric from 1974 until he retired on May 31st, 2007. Most recently, he was working as a night security officer at Minot Job Corps. Chuck was hard working, loving, caring and generous. He enjoyed music from playing the piano to building his own intricate flutes; he took pride in his work. He spent many years working cattle and living the farming life with his wife in and around Sawyer. He has spent a great deal of time at Schatz Truck Stop where he’s made so many friends. He will be missed by the many people who have served and supported him over the years. Chuck didn’t know a stranger. He was friendly, wanted to share his stories and photos with anyone and everyone who would give him the chance.

Chuck’s surviving family includes: wife, Judy (Smith) Brooks; Siblings, Bob Brooks, Mike (Leslie) Brooks, Jim (Shirley) Brooks, Rhonda (Jill) Brooks; Sister-in-law, Avis Brooks; cousins, nieces and nephews as well as godchildren who loved him dearly, Savannah (James) Arnott, Rebecca (Damian) Tweten, Jeff Tweten, Hanna Arnott, Mason Arnott and Tim (Ariel) Anderson. Chuck had numerous “adoptees” whom he cared for deeply and considered them as family.

Chuck was preceded in death by: his parents, Barbara (Hanson) & Charles E. Brooks; brother, Ron Brooks; and many aunts and uncles.
