Penny Ann Wardenski, 60, of Bay City, our strong-willed, amazing, selfless, and most caring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and loyal friend was born into eternal life on the evening of Sunday, September 17, 2023 at Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor, surrounded by her family after a lengthy and strong-fought battle against non-alcoholic liver disease.

Penny was born in Bay City on November 6, 1962, the daughter of Albert and Roselyn (Rogner) Steffey. She was a 1980 graduate of John Glenn High School and went on to graduate from Bayshire Beauty Academy, earning her cosmetology license in 1981. In 1980, Penny fell in love with her softball coach, Robert “Bob” Wardenski. They dated and were united in marriage on October 18, 1986, celebrating 36 years of love and happiness. Until the day she died, Penny absolutely adored Bob. As a hardworking woman with a strong work ethic, Penny touched the lives of many people during her time being a hairdresser for 42 years. Penny greatly enjoyed the time spent with her beloved clients and friends. In her younger years, Penny enjoyed playing softball; she spent many Fridays bowling at Bay Lanes and many weekends at tournaments. While relaxing at home, Penny enjoyed watching surgical videos and tuning into NCIS or any other crime show. While she had many titles throughout life, Penny’s favorite title was “Gramma” to Natalie and Lukas, who were the light of her life. She loved her family and being surrounded by them. Her happiest times were when she was spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, mother, and siblings. Penny will forever be remembered for her kind and gentle ways. She was a friend to all and left a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with her.

To carry on her legacy, Penny leaves her faithful husband, Robert Wardenski, and two children, Brooke (Kevin) Yenglin and Steven Wardenski. She was the most loving Gramma of Natalie Yenglin and Lukas Yenglin, who were her whole world. Penny will forever be missed by her mother, Roselyn Steffey; siblings, Albert (Michelle) Steffey, Debra (Brian) Tobin, Wendy (Colin) Stewart, and Kimberly Steffey (Kelly Purcell); aunt, Maureen Martin, along with many nieces, nephews, and their families. She was welcomed home to Heaven by her father, Albert Steffey, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leonard and Marlene Wardenski.

Penny’s family will be present to receive visitors on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM with Penny’s Life Celebration at 11:00 AM at Skorupski Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 821 N. Pine Rd., between Ridge & Center. Rev. Larry Jacobs will preside. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Gift of Life or the wishes of the family. The entire family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the nurses, doctors, and staff at the University of Michigan for the extremely wonderful and compassionate care Penny received.
